UT LACROSSE STADIUM

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA
Athletic Facilities

When the University of South Florida decided to make the largest addition and renovation to its athletic facilities since the construction of the Sun Dome, it once again turned to R.R. Simmons. Having worked successfully with R.R. Simmons to design and build the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility and the Alumni Center, the University recognized R.R. Simmons’ unique ability to provide the innovation and oversight required for such a transformational project.

Multiple Venues

The $30 million, multi-venue project includes a 50,000 SF basketball training facility, 1500 seat baseball stadium, 750 seat softball complex, 2,000 seat soccer park, and multiple football and recreation fields. These state-of-the-art athletic facilities will not only catapult the University of South Florida’s Athletics to the top of Division I schools and attract the country’s best athletes, but they will also promote the growth of the University on a national stage.

Pam and Les Muma Basketball Center

Named after the primary donors, this 50,000 square foot structure will provide exceptional training and support facilities for the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Connected to the adjacent Sun Dome by a unique underground tunnel, the facility includes 2 practice courts with eight baskets on each court. A large club room overlooking the courts will enhance the visitor’s experience, and new offices will support the coaching efforts. In addition to strength training rooms, student athletes will enjoy beautiful locker rooms and receive top quality care in the sports medicine rooms.

Morsani Football Practice Facility & Recreation Fields

Featuring three side-by-side full-length football fields, the new football facility is being relocated and expanded to provide additional practice space. Adjacent to the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility which houses the team’s offices, locker rooms, and weight rooms, the new location will improve safety and efficiency. The two natural turf fields and one synthetic turf field will greatly enhance recruiting efforts, and the two towers for filming and coaching will further strengthen the program. The larger student population will also benefit with the addition of five new lighted fields that can be used for multiple, intramural activities.

Baseball & Softball Stadiums

With a shared plaza-style entrance and an elevated hospitality deck, the 1,500-seat baseball stadium and 750-seat softball stadium will offer a one-of-a-kind sports experience to both fans and visitors. Sophisticated, cutting-edge scoreboards will offer a close-up view of the on-field action, and the shaded grandstands will provide relief from the sun. The enlarged concession area will include cooking facilities and increase dining choices. To expand seating options for NCAA events, both facilities will include berm seating beyond the outfield walls to accommodate 3,000 visitors in the baseball venue and 1,500 visitors in the softball venue.

Soccer Park

Designed like a bowl and built into the ground, this exciting addition to the successful USF soccer program is an excellent example of the creativity and innovation that R.R. Simmons brings to projects. Faced with a particularly tight budget for this new venue, R.R. Simmons worked diligently to design a facility that will meet the needs of the growing program for years to come. The solution, a 2,000 seat park with berm seating, will offer spectators a very intimate feel while providing players a top quality playing surface.
